A useful clothing manufacturing quote starts with a clear project brief. Before asking for a price, tell the supplier what you want to make, how many units you need and where the order will be delivered. If some details are undecided, label them as open questions so the supplier can explain the assumptions behind an initial estimate.
This checklist helps fashion brands prepare a request that can be reviewed and compared. It does not replace a confirmed specification, approved sample or written quotation.
1. Identify each style
Send a catalog style number, your own design drawing or clear front and back reference images. State whether you want the pictured design reproduced, adapted or used only as inspiration. Identify which pieces are included: a photograph of a complete outfit does not establish that the top, skirt and accessories are sold together.
Give each style a separate reference. For dresses, describe the length, neckline, lining and closure. For T-shirts and hoodies, specify the intended fit and the positions of any print or embroidery. See our dress manufacturing guide, T-shirt fabric and sampling guide and hoodie manufacturing guide for category-specific questions.
2. Break quantities down by style, color and size
A total order quantity alone leaves important questions unanswered. List the quantity for each style and color, then give the size breakdown. For example, an illustrative 100-unit order could contain one style in two colors, with 50 units of each color. Whether that combination meets the supplier’s requirements must be confirmed for the actual project.
Yiman’s minimum order quantity is 50 pieces per style and color, with mixed sizes allowed. One style in two colors therefore requires at least 100 pieces. Please share your style, color and size breakdown so we can review the project. Fabric and customization requirements are confirmed for each order; the minimum quantity does not establish available stock or a confirmed production slot.
3. Describe fabric, measurements and construction
If you have a specification, include fiber composition, fabric weight, color reference, garment measurements and tolerances. Attach your size chart and explain how the measurements are taken. If you only have a reference garment, tell the supplier which features matter most and request options for review rather than assuming the exact material can be identified from a photograph.
Include details that can change the quotation: lining, zippers, buttons, ribbing, pockets, decoration and additional construction. Keep the same specification version when comparing suppliers; quotes based on different fabrics or measurements cannot be compared by unit price alone.
4. List branding and packaging separately
Provide artwork, intended dimensions, placement and color references for logos or decoration. List woven labels, care labels, hangtags and packaging as separate requirements. Ask whether artwork preparation, sampling, tooling or packaging charges are included in the unit price or quoted separately. Feasibility and minimum quantities need confirmation for the selected process.
5. Explain your sample and delivery requirements
State whether you need a development sample, a size check or a sample using the final materials. Ask for the sample cost, what it includes and how revisions are handled. Do not assume samples are free or that sample charges will be credited against a bulk order.
Give your required arrival date and delivery country, city and postcode. Ask the supplier to separate sample preparation, approval, bulk production and transportation in the proposed schedule, with a clear starting condition for each stage. An arrival target is a request until the parties confirm a feasible schedule.
6. Check what the quoted amount includes
Before accepting a quotation, confirm the currency, quantities, specification version, sample charges, branding costs, packaging, shipping basis, payment conditions and quotation validity. Clarify which duties, taxes and destination charges are excluded. Request a revised quote if you change the fabric, quantity or delivery requirements.
